My son and I have been supplying Bartlett’s with
potatoes for over 10 years from our farm in East
Coast Angus, we grow 4 different varieties;
Osprey, Rooster, Maris Piper and Saxon. Aside
from growing for Bartlett’s we also supply
McCains with Shepody seed potatoes. Other
crops grown on our farm include oil seed rape
for vegetable oil and spring barley which is used
for malting.
As farmers it is important for us to look after our
wildlife on the farm by protecting their
surrounding habitats. In one area of the farm we
have 2 lagoons that provide the perfect
environment for nesting ducks and other birdlife.
On top of this we are involved in ‘Operation
Bumblebee’ with the aim of increasing
bumblebee numbers. We also have set a side
grass margins that provide the ideal habitat for
nesting birds. Aside from farming we are both
actively involved in our community in particular I
am heavily involved with our local church in
Carmyllie. I was also a director for the Royal
Highland Show for 14 years. Finally for the last 3
years my son and I have worked with the Royal
Highland Education Trust (RHET) to provide
educational farm trips for local school children.
