We have been supplying Bartlett’s with potatoes
for over 15 years from our farm in North-East
Angus. We grow 4 different varieties for the
company; Osprey, Maris Piper, Harmony and
Rooster. As well as potatoes we also grow wheat
for feeding livestock, barley for malting and oil
seed rape for vegetable oil.
As a farmer our livelihood is very dependent on
the condition of the soil, so it is particularly
important to condition and treat it in a sustainable
manner. I am a member of LEAF which has an
Integrated Crop Management scheme that
advises farmers in the best way to use their land
i.e. contour ploughing can prevent soil erosion.
Additionally the creation of a conservation pond
has encouraged many different species of wildlife
to the area we farm in. Away from farming I am
a keen golfer and take every opportunity to play,
as well as enjoying the social aspects of the
sport.
