We have been growing potatoes for Bartlett’s in
Perthshire for over 25 years. We supply the
company with 4 different varieties including
Osprey, Saxon, Orla and Rooster.
Aside from potatoes we grow a large amount of
spring barley for malting, winter wheat and
barley for feeding livestock, oil seed rape for
vegetable oil, kale, grass. We also rear sheep
and cattle.
The importance of wildlife and environmental
protection has never been so prominent. There
are many schemes and methods that can be used,
but we have chosen to build 3 conservation
ponds to encourage pond and bird life.
We also regularly plant hedges to try, and
increase insects and smaller forms of wildlife.
Constructing these types of habitats not only
increases the different species on the farm but
also improves the general appearance of the
countryside. Aside from the day to day activities
on the farm I enjoy my annual duty of being a
stock judge at the Royal Highland Show in
Edinburgh and I am also a member of the Perth
Agricultural Show.
