We have been growing potatoes for Bartlett’s for
10 years from our farm near Lands End in the far
West of Cornwall. We supply them with a wide
range of varieties including; Maris Peer, Charlotte,
Vivaldi, Rooster, Cornish Royals and Premiere.
Our family have farmed in Cornwall for many
generations and can be traced back to the1800’s.
The climate in West Cornwall is the mildest in the
UK,warmed by the Gulf Stream. The soil holds its
temperature and the crops grow early in the year.
Using traditional methods with a rotation of
different crops and sustainable farming systems,
not only do we produce some of the first New
Potatoes of the season, but we are also helping to
manage wildlife habitats and protect the
environment.
As well as potatoes we also have a herd of dairy
cows and beef cattle which graze the grass and
benefit to the soil. We also grow wheat, barley
and maize to feed the cattle. Our grass areas are
used to build fertility in the soil, in the hope that
this will aid the growth of our crops. Parts of the
farm are managed for nature conservation to
encourage different species of wildlife.
