Jersey Royals Potato
Our great tasting Jersey Royals have been harvested, washed, processed and packed on the sunny island of Jersey in our new purpose-built facilities to ensure that the quality and freshness have been sealed-in. This has significantly reduced the time it takes to transport these gastronomic delights from the field to the market shelves.
Our group of dedicated Jersey farmers collectively grow almost 1400 acres. Many of them are fourth or fifth generation farmers and whilst they have adopted modern technology where appropriate, they still use some of the most traditional methods that have evolved over the last 125 years. Every potato seed is still planted by hand. The earliest fields, cotils ñ steep South facing slopes that catch the warmth of the sun, are still all lifted by hand.
A number of the sandy fields still have seaweed or Vraic spread on them to add nutrients to the soil and add to the flavour of the famous Jersey Royal.
This unique potato can only come from Jersey. It has a PDO Protected designation of Origin, similar to the champagne region, awarded in 1997.
The famous Royal has a unique nutty flavour and smooth waxy texture.
